One of the new Bielefeld light rail vehicles will bear the name Ruth Baumgarte from 2022. The "Ruth Baumgarte" streetcar, with the number 5020, is already in passenger service. By the end of 2022, 21 state-of-the-art Vamos light rail vehicles will be in service, with Lina and August Oetker, Hermann Delius and Friedrich von Bodelschwingh among the other namesakes selected by the jury of experts.
As an artist and founder of the Samuelis Baumgarte Gallery, she made a lasting contribution to the Bielefeld art and cultural scene. We would like to honor this by naming the Vamos-Bahn.
