Mission Statement of the Ruth Baumgarte Art Foundation

Ruth Baumgarte has left a varied and multifaceted oeuvre. Her art is firmly anchored in figurative tradition and impresses by an unusual coloration, which runs through the complete lifeswork.

Since the early 1950s, Ruth Baumgarte travelled to many countries in Europe, the former called Eastern Bloc, again and again to Africa, the Middle East, Southwest Asia and the USA. The Africa-Cycle, which dominates with brightly-coloured, large-format oil paintings, watercolors and drawings, was shown internationally since the late 1980s in huge renowned solo exhibitions in New York, London, Rome, Milan, Paris and Berlin.
